Technology Timeline

1991: The Nordost Corporation is established in Boston, Massachusetts with the goal of creating the world’s finest Audio and Video cables.

1992: Flatline Gold speaker cable is released, developed from a smaller flat cable originally invented for the aerospace industry and later used by NASA in the Space Shuttle.

1993: Flatline debuts at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Later that year, Nordost introduced the very popular 16 conductor bi-wired Super Flatline cable.

1994: Nordost release the original Blue Heaven cables, introducing the extruded silver conductor coating for the first time. Just like Flatline, updated versions of this cable are still in the range today.

1995: Black Knight, Magic 1 and Blue Angel interconnects released.

1996: Red Dawn speaker cable and interconnect added to the range. Flat extruded FEP installation speaker cables 2Flat, 4Flat and Cinema Flex Bassline are introduced.

1997: Nordost launches flagship interconnect and loudspeaker cable called SPM (Speed, Precision and Musicality), which receive rave reviews worldwide, achieving reference status with many audio reviewers.

Blue Heaven achieves top ranking in both Stereophile and The Absolute Sound.

Extensive R& D results in Nordost’s micro mono-filament technology, which combines the benefits of air-space dielectric with standard-setting flexibility and durability. Quattro Fil interconnects are the first product to employ this revolutionary technology and also represent the first tubular, shielded signal cable from Nordost.

Nordost starts work on the Optix high-performance video cables, utilizing a variant of the mono-filament technology. This work has a major impact on later Nordost products as the company perfects and refines its manufacturing techniques.

Introduction of ECO 3 cable and CD treatment, which removes surface static, substantially lowering the noise floor in audio and AV systems.

1998: Nordost launches the Pulsar Points resonance control devices. Available in Aluminum and Titanium versions, they quickly become a must have accessory for all serious audiophiles

1999: Valhalla interconnect and loudspeaker cable launched at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The reaction from consumers, dealers and the audio press is unprecedented, the cables rapidly establishing a completely new benchmark for audio performance.

2003: Valhalla, Vishnu and Shiva power cords are introduced, later followed by the Brahma. The Thor Power Distribution System is developed to maximize performance of the power cords. It marks Nordost’s first association with the revolutionary Quantum power purification circuitry. Introduction of the Silver Screen high-end video cables using a new, patented technology called dual mono-filament which improves di-electric and mechanical performance even further.

2004: Specially designed tonearm leads are introduced to the Heimdall, Frey and Tyr ranges.

2005: Development of improved manufacturing techniques enable Nordost to extend Valhalla’s mono-filament technology to a new, more affordable range of products, the Norse Series. This three cable family consists of Baldur, Heimdall and Frey, while Tyr joins Valhalla in the Reference Series, marking the first use of dual mono-filament technology in an audio interconnect. The Vidar cable burn-in machine is introduced to the Nordost dealer network.

2007: With the performance of Valhalla still unchallenged, Nordost move the goal posts again, introducing the Odin Supreme Reference interconnect and speaker cable at the High End Show in Munich, Germany. As well as applying dual mono-filament construction across the range, Odin also introduces Total Signal Control (TSC) technology, the first ever flexible, 100% effective signal shield.

Odin wins the prestigious Hi-Fi+ Product Of The Year and the absolute sound Golden Ear awards. Quasar Points are introduced, a further refinement of the patented Pulsar Point principal, offering even better mechanical coupling for audio and AV equipment.

2008: The Odin range is completed with the introduction at the High-End Show in Munich of the matching Power Cord. Together with the speaker and interconnects, these Odin Supreme Reference Cables establish a totally new level of performance, an exercise examining the limits of the possible – or what was previously considered impossible!
